Individual Responsibility & The Family Soul

In Family Constellations, the Soul is a collective entity we belong to. So in this perspective we don't "have" an individual soul - we belong to a collective Soul.

According to this understanding, the Family Soul is much larger and much more powerful than any person's individual free will. We are born in a family soul like icebergs are formed in an ocean. Symbolically, each individual of the family can be considered an "iceberg", and the family soul can be seen as "the ocean".

We enherit the contents of the Family Soul "ocean". We are made of that "water", which contains the story of life and the history of each one of our ancestors.

The history of our ancestors is imprinted in our unconscious mind and in all the cells and energetic blueprints of an individual's bodymind.

In the Cardinal Method perspective, which follows many of the fundamental principles of Family Constellations, the focus is on the individual responsibility of each one of us to be as strong an "iceberg" as possible. This means we can freely make an effort to occupy a space in the "family ocean" (our Family's Soul) and make it as clear and loving and free as possible for future generations to be born in "clear water" - which stands for a healthy and strong Family Soul.

When we make an effort to let go of the past and allow life to flow, we make the way clear for ourselves, and especially for our children and grandchildren and future generations. They won't get easily entangled in painful experiences, rigid mindsets, limiting belief systems and resentments that may contaminate the waters of the Family Soul.

This is not about judging the family past - it's about honoring it and realizing we are the descendants of strong survivors, and whatever has happened to our ancestors and parents should not be a reason for collapsing - it should be seen as strength that has given us life and that continues to nurture us in the present moment.

It's about taking the strength of their survival instead of dragging the weight of their pain, and living a meaningful, fulfilled life.
